EXPLORING AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR EAST BERGHOLT
Published On: October 23, 2026
East Bergholt Parish Council is working with the Community Land Trust to explore ways of providing affordable homes for local couples and families who are struggling to get onto the housing ladder.
Our village is fortunate to have the United Charities almshouses, providing homes for nine local single people, but we currently have no equivalent provision for couples and families of the village.
At a recent workshop, Councillors heard how Lawford Community Land Trust has made progress, including through the gifting of properties, and discussed whether a similar approach could work here.
Finding suitable land in East Bergholt remains a challenge, so we’re exploring different options, including the possibility of starting with an existing property or, if needed, considering financial support from the Parish Council. There’s still work to do, but we’re committed to working together to explore ways of helping local people remain part of the community they call home.
