Planning and Development Update – East Bergholt
Published On: March 24, 2026
Attention has turned to Babergh District Council’s Call for Sites, listing land submitted by developers for potential housing as part of the next Joint Local Plan.
Across Babergh, particularly near Capel St Mary and Brantham, the number of sites submitted is considerable, raising concerns among local communities. In East Bergholt, two smaller sites have been put forward:
• North and west of Moores Lane
• North of the B1070, adjacent to the High School
At this stage, these are just proposals, and not all sites are expected to be approved. Local concerns include:
• Potential impact on the A14 & A12, already busy with local and long-distance traffic
• The need for a proper understanding of wider strategic planning issues and our limited infrastructure capacity
To address this, a group of parish councils along the A12 corridor has been formed to share information, concerns, and work together to positively influence Babergh at this important early stage.
