East Bergholt Parish Council is pleased to share an update on the growing momentum behind the Legend on a Bench project, led by Councillor Mark Hurley
Published On: June 5, 2026
This important charity initiative aims to place specially designed benches in public spaces — providing 24/7 access to crisis support through QR codes, and acting as a visible beacon of hope for anyone in distress
Fundraising for the project continues to gather pace, with an impressive £2,123 now raised towards the £4,600 target needed to install two benches in the village.
Almost 50% of this total was generated through the recent East Bergholt Pram Race, and Mark would like to extend a huge thank you to Tom at The Dicky (The Royal Oak) for selecting Legend on a Bench as the event’s chosen charity this year. The support shown by participants, spectators, local businesses and volunteers has provided a significant boost to the campaign.
The Council has also agreed a contribution of £750 towards the project fund, recognising the value and importance of this initiative for our community.
Two benches are planned, one for East End and the second location to be confirmed following consultation with residents and in line with village wishes.
This is a powerful community effort supporting mental health awareness and crisis support — bringing light, visibility and hope into our shared public spaces
