East Bergholt Conservation Area Extension Update

Published On: May 12, 2026
East Bergholt Parish Council has been working in close partnership with Babergh District Council to develop a formal proposal to extend our Conservation Area — helping to better protect the historic landscapes and heritage that make our village so special.
We are very grateful for the voluntary local expertise of John Lyall, alongside the professional support of the national Heritage Collective group, who produced our Historic Landscape Report 📜🌳
EBPC held a public consultation in February to share the proposals. The exhibition was extremely well attended, and we are encouraged that the majority of residents expressed strong support for protecting East Bergholt’s unique character and heritage.
📅 Next steps:
Babergh District Council will now begin its formal public consultation period from 11 May to 8 June 2026, giving all residents the opportunity to share their views directly with the Council.
🗣️ A public exhibition of the proposals will be held where you can see all the details and ask questions of Babergh officers:
Saturday 23 May 2026 between 10am and 2pm
📍 The Lambe School, Gaston Street, East Bergholt, CO7 6SD
📊 Babergh’s report on the proposed extension is expected to go to councillors on 21 June 2026 for a final decision.
