Constable Memorial Hall
Plans for a replacement kitchen and access corridor to the Benneworth Lounge

I am writing on behalf of the Constable Memorial Hall Committee to apply for a grant to fulfil our
aim of replacing the existing kitchen and creating an access from the new kitchen into the Benneworth
Lounge at the rear of the building in order to meet the needs of a wider range of village groups and
organisations and also for individual hire for a variety of occasions.

I would be very pleased, therefore, if you would place this as an item on the agenda for the next Parish
Council meeting scheduled for 13 February, 2020.

You will be aware that we have already made a CIL application to Babergh-Mid Suffolk. However, the
Grant Officers have since advised us that our application would be better transferred to fund the
building works associated with creating an access corridor from the main kitchen into the Benneworth
Lounge. We understand that we will also be eligible for a Capital Grant which will go some way
towards replacing the kitchen but we still need to look elsewhere in order to raise funds to complete
the whole project.
You mentioned that Councillor Miller might be concerned whether work improving the kitchen might
not be compatible with long term plans re developing the Constable Hall. Recent ideas for
improvements have all centred around work on the Benneworth Lounge which would not be affected
by work on the kitchen. I do not believe that improving the kitchen will, in any way, be detrimental to
the long-term community enjoyment of the Constable Hall.
You will see from the attached report that the shortfall is approximately £14,000. I would respectfully
request that the Parish Council will consider the merits of the project and also review to what extent
the Parish Council is able to help with the financial costs.
