Young People Committee Meeting Minutes
Tuesday 15 April, 2025 at Lambe School

Open Public Session
The committee heard a comprehensive presentation from Liz Digby and Gill Rattray from the St
Mary’s Baby and Toddler group which included detail on the numbers attending and
challenges/plans for the future. Committee members expressed their gratitude to Liz and Gill for
providing an important service.

To approve minutes of Jan 28 meeting
Proposed by Cllr Miller, seconded by Cllr Robers and approved unanimously.

Matters arising or updates
Cllr Matthews reported that she was waiting to arrange a visit by EBHS pupils to the parish
council – possibly in July. She also reported that her on-going efforts to contact the primary
school were currently unsuccessful.

Toddler group update
Discussion on information needed to inform decision-making on provision for under-5s.
ACTION: Cllr Burns to research 1. Numbers of babies born each year in the village, and 2.
Detail on free nursery hours provision.

Youth Club feedback
Cllr Burns reported that the youth club would start on Wednesday, April 23 in the Benneworth
Lounge at Constable Hall from 5.30 to 8.30pm. She said the Constable Hall booking was initially
a 4-week trial. She said publicity for the club was underway on social media – and that posters
would be displayed around the village also. She said the youth club activities would develop
over time according to what the young attendees wanted.
Cllr Burns reported that Simon Doling from 4YP would provide a report on the youth club for
future Young People Committee meetings.

Under 5s/Ipswich Play bus
Cllr Davies reported that the Ipswich play bus scheme organisers were keen to visit local
villages. It was agreed that likely demand in East Bergholt should be established before
committing funds to such a visit.

Urgent Communications
Cllr Matthews asked about a summer play scheme. After discussion, it was agreed that the
focus this year should be supporting and establishing the youth club.
