In Touch August 2022
District Council Report Cllr John Hinton
East Bergholt Ward.
Still plenty to talk about concerning the weather but no doubt, due to the vagaries of our UK
weather it will be all change by the time this is published. If it follows the trend set in 1976 our last
major drought, we will soon be dealing with floods!
On a serious note, everywhere is dry so we must all be extra careful to avoid any chance of an
accidental fire as it could be devastating.
There is little of any fascinating news to report, as Westminster is in apparent “sleep mode”, and as I
reported last month, various surveys/strategies on waste and parking to name two, are underway
with nothing to scrutinise as yet.
Roadworks still seem to plague the area with National Highways leading the way with the interesting
in car game of “spot what they have actually done on the A12” an apparent favourite. More works
are imminent with a briefing for councillors shortly. Hopefully the Werstead interchange works are
nearly finished so A12 diversions may be easier to cope with.
There are plans for road closures and diversions within the village but, I for one have had enormous
difficulty trying to find out what is proposed and for what, from the “Highways Authority” Suffolk
County Council.
Ease of communication between the public /Electorate and Local Government needs to be improved
so that what is effectively being paid for by the Public can be shown to be improving the quality of
everyones lives!
I will be missing a lot of physical meetings during August and early September as I am severely
movement restricted having had a whole knee replacement but the telephone, postal service and
computer network will hopefully be fully functioning. Hope fully back to normal ASAP.
In the meantime, stay safe, enjoy the holidays and as already mentioned be ultra-careful with any
form of fire in the dry conditions.
Cllr John Hinton
