Suffolk Sound

Rob Dunger from Suffolk Sound speaks with Joan Miller, Chair of the Parish Council, and Marion Burns, Parish Councillor leading our “In Our View” celebrations, about the exciting programme of events taking place across East Bergholt as we mark 250 years since the birth of John Constable 🎨
The village’s birthday week is shaping up to be something truly special — leading into the much-loved Summer Fair on Sunday 14 June — with activities for all ages spread right across the village in May & June, including a packed programme of 🎉
🎨 Painting by Numbers
🏃‍♂️ Pram Race
🧺 Flower Festival
🔔 A 250 Peel Ring of the Bells at the church
🪶 Scarecrow Trail (and we still need MORE scarecrows!)
🏡 Constable Hall events, exhibitions and community activities
…and plenty more still to come!
What makes this year even more remarkable is the incredible contribution from so many village organisations, volunteers and community groups. It’s genuinely inspiring to see the whole village coming together to deliver such an ambitious and joyful programme 🙌
Alongside the celebrations, the Parish Council has also been working with Babergh District Council on a key legacy project — the proposed extension of the conservation area. A public exhibition will take place on 23 May at The Lambe School, giving residents the opportunity to view and comment on the proposals. This reflects the importance of protecting the Constable landscape, which forms a lasting legacy of this anniversary year 🌿
All of this sits within our wider “In Our View” celebrations — bringing together creativity, heritage and community spirit under one local banner. While Constable250 celebrates nationally, “In Our View” is proudly East Bergholt’s own way of marking this landmark year — created by the village, for the village.
We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike to a fantastic celebration of art, heritage and village life.
