Summer Fair/In Our View working groups – report for MAY parish council meeting
MB, 05.05.2026

The Summer Fair is on Sunday, June 14 from 1pm to 5pm at Gandish Road.

With just over four weeks to go, arrangements are now being finalised. The last two planning
meetings are on May 18 and June 5.

There will be a good number of stalls and other attractions and we’re confident that the fair will
be a celebratory end to Constable’s birthday week of events (June 7-14).

Cllr Matthews is running a stall to encourage more volunteering in the village. Cllr Hurley will be
promoting the Legend on a Bench project. There will be a parish council stall.

Many thanks to councillors who have already volunteered to help get the fair set-up/parking etc.
A few more volunteers would be good.

Our June parish council meeting is on the same day as Constable’s actual birthday – June
11.
We are working with the National Trust media team and are hopeful of attracting regional media
to the village that day – especially for the 250-ring of bells at 6.30pm (which is followed by an
elderflower bubbly reception).

It would be good if parish councillors were able to attend that event, and could encourage others
to do so.

Our June meeting start time has been moved to 7.45pm to make that easier.

Scarecrow Festival: We are confident of getting a good number of partying scarecrows for the
festival (June 7-14). We are about to distribute some scarecrow flyers. Posters will be going up
soon and we have a young volunteer helping Nicki with social media promotion.

In Our View is now all about promotion. There are eight banners around the village. We have
produced A5 leaflets listing all events. SALC and also Suffolk Archives are taking some of them
“on tour” around regional summer shows – the Suffolk Show etc. We have interview slots
arranged on Suffolk Sound on May 18 and June 9.
Events that have already taken place (eg the East Bergholt Society/Brian Lott talk) have been
well attended and appreciated.
