Request to use the village car park
Background
This year the Christmas Market and Parade group have taken the decision not
continue with facilitating the market and parade due to personal capacity
issues. The market and fair have been a village tradition since beginning in
2020. This is event was previously attended by a large percentage of the village.
This year, a much smaller group of volunteers would like to propose a reduced
event, which would not include the parade. The previous fair was held at Gandish
Road playing field, this often-caused issues due to the condition of the ground.
The group would like to facilitate a Christmas market on 6
th
December in the village
car park, therefore would request agreement from the Parish Council to do so. The
Chestnut Group, who own the Red Lion are informally supportive of this request and
are keen to work in partnership to enable a community event. It is appreciated that
the Parish Council as tenant would need to make a formal request of its’ landlord for
such use.
The car park would facilitate food vendors and craft sellers who would be selling
from 2-5pm. No road closure would be required, the car park would simply be out of
use for the entire day, with ample notice given to village residents.
Should the Council decide that this is not an appropriate use for the car park, there
are other locations available which could be used within the village. The village car
park is however the favoured option.
Cost
Hire of equipment will be essential to allow this event to go ahead. That will include
a generator, lighting and other entertainment items. It is requested that the Parish
Council agree a grant of up to £750, which was the amount granted last year to
facilitate the 2024 market and parade, which did not go ahead due to adverse
weather conditions. This amount was returned to the Parish Council accordingly.
