Young People Committee Annual Parishioners Update
The Young People Committee have been busy in recent months. A survey was
undertaken in October 2024 to ascertain which services residents would like to see
for young people in the village. A resounding response was the need for a facility
where young people can gather in a safe space. As a result of this, we approached
three organisations to submit a bid to establish a weekly youth club from school
years 7-10. Two organisations responded, Parish Councillors visited both
organisations and we were pleased to eventually award the contract to 4YP, a local
organisation with ample experience in youth work and running youth groups. The
youth club commenced on 23
rd
April and we are hoping to build up interest over the
coming months.
Members of the committee have now developed closer links with the high school and
look forward to strengthening these links in the future. The YP committee is
committed to offering young people as many opportunities as possible to develop
their experience within the village. Recently, the School Council commenced a logo
design project for the youth club, under the guidance of Guy Clubb, Creative Director
at Clubb Creative, based at the Gattinetts Business Centre in the village. The
committee has also extended invites to high school students, to see if they would like
to be involved in the Summer Fair in some way.
The Parish Council granted £163.54 to St Mary’s Church to support their toddler
group. This has now become weekly, on a Friday morning and offers parents and
carers a regular opportunity within the village to meet and socialise. We have
engaged with parents and carers of under 5s. The survey showed a need for more
provision in the village for this age group and we continue to explore options.
I would like to thank the members of the committee and the assistant clerk, who
have all been active and engaged in our work. It is a pleasure to work with this
team.
