APPLICATION FOR GRANT FUNDING

Further to our original request made on 25

December 2019, additional information is provided below as requested.
The East Bergholt Community Land Trust was established in 2017 by the Parish Council as an
outcome of the Neighbourhood Plan with an objective of delivering affordable homes for local
people and maintaining Community Assets for the long term benefit of the Village. We are working
to deliver this objective through acquiring small sites, developing new dwellings or buying and
converting existing properties in the village, to provide low cost, sustainable housing that local
people can afford.

At present we have 11 young people and families on our housing needs waiting list seeking
affordable housing in the village. Applications are open to all those with a strong village connection.
The Neighbourhood Plan survey and our own Housing Needs Survey in 2018/19 indicates a clear
demand for affordable housing for both young people and elderly across a range of tenure types.

EB CLT is established as a `not for profit’ Community Benefit Society. It is run by a Board of elected
trustees who are all volunteers from the village including representatives from the Parish Council.
The CLT is open to all members of the community to join as shareholders, we currently have over
150 shareholder members. Our Chairman Chris McEwen attended the Parish Council on 14
th

November 201 and gave a presentation on our aims and progress and responded to questions.

The CLT is now fully established and has turned its attention to developing potential sites and
properties. The need to respond rapidly to opportunities as they present themselves has led to an
increase in time critical administrative and support activity both internally between Trustees and
with external partners and advisory bodies.

This increasing workload cannot continue to be absorbed by our unpaid volunteer Trustees, and in
particular the Chairman. In December 2019 Trustees made the decision that it was now appropriate
to engage paid administrative, financial and project support. Until we develop our housing we have
no income and are therefore entirely reliant on grants for our day to day expenses.
On behalf of East Bergholt Community Land Trust I would like to request that the Parish Council
make available a grant of £4000 for the 2020/2021 financial year to assist with funding
administrative support for the Chairman and Trustees.
