Have your say on Suffolk’s future local government!
Published On: November 24, 2025
The government has now opened the consultation on proposed unitary councils for Suffolk. After local councils submitted their proposals in September, it’s now residents’ turn to have their say on what they want for their area.
East Bergholt Parish Council has recommended the 3-unitary option for Suffolk. Why? We believe smaller, localised councils will give us a greater voice in decisions affecting our community.
• Government decision likely to be announced in the New Year.
• Phasing in of new councils will take place 2026 / 2027 / 2028.
• Elections for the new councils: May 2027.
•
This is your chance to influence how local services are run in Suffolk — from
Housing and planning to schools, social care and libraries.
